We are excited to announce the capture of another Orange County Sanitation District project: the Digester Gas Compressor Dryer Replacements at Plant No. 1 and No. 2! Our project scope calls for the removal and demolition of three (3) gas drying systems, and the installation of new in-kind systems including all associated piping, valves, instruments, and controls followed by testing/commissioning efforts. Our teams are looking forward to embracing the challenging logistics of the project site as we tackle the various components at their respective plants. The rehabilitation of these legacy digester gas drying systems contributes to the district’s successful collection and treatment of approximately 185 million gallons of wastewater a day! Way to bring this one home, team!

This month’s safety topic on heat stress prevention is incredibly relevant at the moment for those based in California! While California battles excessive heat warnings with temperatures ranging from the low 90s to high 110s, field personnel must take additional measures to safeguard their health and wellness during the summertime. Heat stress and other related illnesses such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke, can be brought on if we are not prepared for extended periods of time in the heat. At ICS, we not only prepare for these high temperatures but also instill preventive measures to ensure our team’s wellness is preserved and to further enhance safety on project sites.

It is inherently important that we are mindful about the rising temperatures by not only prioritizing proper hydration throughout the day, but also providing more frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas can significantly reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses. When scheduling the workday items, strenuous tasks should be performed during cooler parts of the day to significantly mitigate heat exposure risks. All employees should be trained to recognize symptoms of heat exhaustion, such as dizziness, headaches, and profuse sweating, and to promptly report any concerns to their supervisors. July’s safety topic is a reminder that with temperatures soaring over these next few months, we must look out for one another and any early symptoms of heat stress!

Just this last Friday, we held our quarterly All Hands meeting for our Northern California team. This meeting was a success, as we introduced new faces to our workforce, discussed important health and safety matters, and opened the floor to hear the thoughts of all who were in attendance. In addition, we addressed the topics of Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA), current safety metrics, successes of the last quarter, and goal-setting as a team. At ICS All Hands meetings, it is vital that we congregate together not only as a team but as a family, as we chase one of our core values – Grow or Die is our Motto. We are always pushing one another to deliver our best, and to do it even better tomorrow. Thank you all who participated in our Q1 All Hands, and remember to get it done safely!
